Full-time Head of Information Technology Posting
Rochester Hills Public Library 

Position: Head of Information Technology (37½ hours per week, including evening and weekend hours, department head status).  Under the management of the Library Director, the Information Technology Department Head is responsible for all aspects of department operations.  The Information Technology Department Head oversees all of the library’s technology initiatives, ensuring the satisfaction of staff and patrons with the library’s equipment, connectivity, website, and online catalog.  The Information Technology Department Head works with the Library Director and other Department Heads as part of the library’s management team to plan the library’s development as a whole and within the department.

Salary: $45,963 - $65,420 annually

Primary Job Duties:

  • Plans, implements and monitors voice and data systems
  • Plans, coordinates, monitors and evaluates the activities and services of technology staff
  • Administers the library automation system in support of cataloging, acquisitions, circulation and online public catalog
  • Researches, recommends and implements new technologies and develops a library technology plan
  • Develops backup, security, and disaster plan management for all technology systems
  • Supervises the installation and maintenance of all staff and public servers and clients           

Required Qualifications:

  • MLS from an ALA accredited library school or a degree in computer science or equivalent job experience
  • Three years experience
  • Extensive experience with Windows 2003/08 server, Active Directory, Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL, PHP/MySQL web sites
  • Desire experience with VMWare, Cisco ASA firewall, WAN/LAN management, Avaya IP Office phone system
  • Ability to use and manage software including Microsoft Office, Symantec Anti-Virus, and ArcServe
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels
  • Ability to prioritize duties and tasks and work independently
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology concepts in basic terms
  • High energy, self-motivated to support leading-edge services  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Sufficient physical agility to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, sit, lift up to 40 lbs., and push carts weighing up to 200 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to grab, hold, process, and shelve materials and supplies, and read small print on labels.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing which permits the employee to communicate in writing and verbally.
  • Sufficient vision which permits the employee to produce and review a wide variety of materials in both electronic and hard copy form.
  • Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions in a fast-paced environment.
