Library Director, East Lansing, (MI) Public Library

Retirement presents the opportunity for an energetic problem-solver  with strong human relations skills to become the next Director of the East Lansing (MI) Public Library.  The library serves a population of nearly 50,000 with a budget of approximately $1.8 million and a staff of 36 FTE (8 MLIS).  Home to Michigan State University, East Lansing has a large student population that contributes to an active and vibrant community. The library is a part of city government and is an equal opportunity employer.

Requirements
: The position requires an ALA-accredited MLIS degree and 8 years of professional experience in public libraries, of which at least 4 years has been in an administrative or supervisory capacity.  Possession of or the ability to obtain a Michigan Permanent Professional certificate is necessary. The Board seeks an individual with proven financial management skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to formulate and communicate a vision for the library, staff, and services.  Candidates are expected to be knowledgeable of current public library practices, be proficient in the use of technology, and have experience in working with community organizations and municipal government officials. A successful track record of creative fundraising  and collaborative community activities is essential. A complete position description is available below.

Compensation
: Salary in the upper - $70s with an excellent benefit package.
